Description
This is a finely carved blackware pottery jar by Santa Clara Pueblo artist Effie Garcia. Measuring approximately 2 inches tall by 3.5 inches wide with a 2-inch opening, this signed piece (“Effie Garcia SCP”) features deeply incised geometric step motifs. The design highlights the traditional Santa Clara style, with highly polished black surfaces contrasting against the matte carved areas.
The jar is in good condition with no cracks. A few small chips and natural surface marks can be seen on close inspection, along with light scuffs from age and handling. These do not detract from the overall presentation. The polish remains reflective, the carving is crisp, and the jar displays beautifully. A finely crafted example of Effie Garcia’s work that would make a strong addition to any Pueblo pottery collection.
