Replica Peruvian Chimú Blackware Bird Whistling Vessel Folk Art Pottery

Condition: Used

Description

Shaped in the form of a bird with carved feather and eye details, this blackware ceramic vessel was made in Peru in the style of ancient Moche and Chimú whistling pots. It features a stirrup handle and top opening, along with a small pinhole, suggesting it was inspired by traditional whistling vessels. The piece measures about 7” tall and 7.5” long. It shows surface wear and a chalky feel to the touch, consistent with handmade pottery. This piece was obtained in Peru and is offered as a decorative folk art collectible, not as an ancient artifact.

Description note:
The underside shows etched markings along with a painted inventory-style number (“A.29 / No 2001”), likely from the artisan workshop or prior collection.
