Description
Handmade Peruvian wall pocket vase from Arequipa, decorated with designs inspired by the ancient Toro Muerto petroglyphs. Made of unglazed terracotta clay with a chalky, textured finish, it mimics the volcanic rock carvings of southern Peru. The flat back includes a hole for hanging, and the narrow top opening leads into a deeper interior cavity, making it suitable for displaying a sprig of dried flowers, grasses, or greenery. The piece is inscribed "Toro Muerto Arequipa" on the front in hand-applied marker, a typical detail on Peruvian folk art souvenirs. Measures about 6.5 inches tall, 4.5 inches wide, and bulges at the middle. The opening is about 2 inches long and is less than an inch wide. A distinctive piece of Peruvian folk art that is both decorative and functional.
